The Mirror of Self-Awareness

“To know yourself is to come home to yourself.”

There are moments in life when we look in the mirror and don’t fully recognize the person looking back. Not because we’ve changed on the outside, but because our inner world has shifted. The truth is, self-awareness isn’t just about noticing our habits or moods. It’s about gently becoming familiar with who we truly are, especially in the quiet spaces no one else can see.

In times of stress, conflict, or loss, we often go into survival mode, reacting, withdrawing, or pleasing others just to keep the peace. But when we pause and reflect, we begin to notice the why behind those reactions. We start to ask:

What part of me is speaking right now, fear, love, pain, or wisdom?

Whose voice am I listening to! mine or someone else’s?

Self-awareness is like holding up a mirror, not to judge, but to understand. It allows us to see where our wounds are still tender, where our growth is unfolding, and where our voice has been waiting to be heard.

And the more we practice this gentle noticing, the more we can show up in life, and in relationships, with truth, clarity, and kindness. Like a butterfly seeing its reflection for the first time, we begin to recognize the beauty in who we’re becoming.

“What emotion visited me this week, and what might it be teaching me?”

Take a moment to the feeling, where you felt it in your body, and what it may be trying to communicate. No judgment. Just notice.
